Hi there! I’m Dr. Matti Martin. I believe therapy should be more than just a listening ear—it should actually help you create meaningful change in your life.

As a licensed clinical psychologist with doctoral training, I bring a deeper understanding of the brain-body connection to our work together. When you’re experiencing anxiety, depression, or other challenges, it’s not “just in your head”—your entire nervous system is involved. Using my skills as an educator, I’ll help you understand these connections and develop practical strategies that address both your thoughts and physical experiences.

Having been in the client’s chair myself, I know how frustrating it can be when therapy feels like endless talking without progress. That’s why I balance deep introspective work with practical skill-building. You’ll leave each session with at least one specific action or technique to practice between our meetings, ensuring you’re always moving forward.

I believe in celebrating your wins while gently challenging you to stretch toward your goals. Real growth requires honest feedback—something my clients appreciate even when it’s difficult to hear. My approach is primarily rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, thoughtfully integrated with, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), DBT, existential, and liberation therapy techniques to create a personalized experience.

Clients often mention my sense of humor and adaptability as unexpected benefits of our work together. Don’t like eye contact? We don’t have to do it. Prefer a faster pace with lots of questions rather than silence? I can adjust. Want to slow things down to process? We can make that space. Even something as simple as both holding a cup of tea during our session can help create the comfortable atmosphere you need to do this important work.

Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, identity questions, life transitions, or complex grief, I’d be honored to walk alongside you. Together, we can help you develop the deep roots and flexibility needed to weather life’s challenges while creating a life of meaning and purpose.

Accepts: Blue Cross Blue Shield, Health Partners, CIGNA, Aetna, America’s PPO, and Self-Pay

If you’re feeling emotionally exhausted, stuck in patterns that no longer serve you, or just unsure of what you need—therapy can help you start again with intention. I work with clients navigating the pressures of high expectations—whether from within or the outside world. Many are young adults, first-generation professionals, high-achieving students, or BIPOC individuals striving to succeed while staying true to themselves.

I also offer executive coaching for clients seeking greater clarity, confidence, and balance in their professional and personal lives. My coaching approach is grounded in helping individuals reconnect with their core values—those foundational beliefs that shape who they are and how they lead. By aligning their decisions and actions with these values, clients are empowered to create more meaningful, purpose-driven lives and careers.

With a diverse background in coaching leaders across various functions and organizational levels—ranging from emerging managers to middle-managers in both for-profit and non-profit sectors—I bring a nuanced understanding of the challenges and opportunities that come with leadership. My coaching sessions provide a supportive, reflective space where clients can slow down, process their experiences, and explore new possibilities. Together, we focus not only on professional growth but also on personal healing, helping individuals navigate transitions, overcome obstacles, and move forward with greater resilience and authenticity. Areas of focus often include strengthening emotional intelligence, improving communication and conflict resolution skills, developing executive presence, navigating career transitions, setting healthy boundaries, and managing stress and burnout. We also work on cultivating a leadership style that feels both effective and authentic—one that’s grounded in self-awareness, aligned with values, and responsive to the complex demands of today’s workplaces.

Therapeutically, my style is warm, direct, and action-oriented. I draw on a wide range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches to develop personalized plans that help you understand what’s holding you back and build practical strategies to move forward. Dr. Emily P. Sander is a licensed clinical psychologist dedicated to providing compassionate, person-centered mental health care to individuals of all ages. Dr. Sander utilizes an integrative approach to psychotherapy, pulling from a variety of therapeutic styles to meet the individual needs of each client, couple, or family. While she employs evidence-based treatments including eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive behavioral (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and dialectical behavioral (DBT) therapies, approaches are not limited to these alone. Dr. Sander strongly believes that treatment must be tailored to each client’s needs and with a respect for the diverse backgrounds and life experiences of each individual. She is also equipped for Psychological First Aid (PFA) treatments.

Dr. Sander is particularly passionate about the treatment of trauma and helping those who have faced traumatic experiences restore a sense of safety and wellbeing in their lives. This includes treatment of PTSD, complex PTSD, and attachment trauma using EMDR therapy as the foundation for healing. Additionally, EMDR therapy can be a powerful tool in addressing other mental health concerns that have roots in painful past experiences, such as symptoms of anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, phobias, and chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia. Dr. Sander is also trained in animal assisted psychotherapy and is in the process of developing a novel animal assisted trauma therapy intervention where animal co-therapists work alongside the provider as supports for healing.

For those seeking more rapid resolution to traumatic experiences Dr. Sander provides EMDR Intensive Treatment. EMDR Intensive Treatment is ideal for those who want to make a significant amount of progress in a much shorter timeframe. While EMDR therapy delivered in a traditional, weekly therapy format is highly effective, it may require several treatment sessions over weeks or months to achieve treatment goals. Intensive treatment offers the chance for more rapid resolution of trauma on a condensed schedule. Visit our EMDR Intensive Treatment page for more information.

In addition to therapy work, Dr. Sander is skilled in the completion of psychological and psycho-educational assessment. In particular, Dr. Sander specializes in neurodiversity focused psychological evaluations including the assessment of autism in adolescents and adults, ADHD across the age spectrum, and learning disabilities. Dr. Sander also provides neurodiversity-affirming psychotherapy for adolescents and adults. In this work she supports autistic individuals, people with ADHD, and other neurodiverse individuals in embracing their diversity and finding the tools and supports to live their best lives.

Dr. Sander earned her masters and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Talbert House and Affiliates in Cincinnati, OH and postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Cincinnati Health Service. Dr. Sander has worked in a variety of settings throughout her training and career, including outpatient medical clinics, hospitals, private practice, residential treatment, and the public school system. Dr. Sander was first licensed and practiced psychology in the state of Kentucky before to moving to Minnesota to be closer to family in 2016. Prior to joining Psychology Express in 2023 Dr. Sander served as a psychology provider in the Mayo Clinic system.

In her free time, Dr. Sander enjoys spending time in nature, coaching youth sports, gardening, and “making things” of all kinds. When not in the office she can often be found planning future travels and making memories with her spouse, children, and fur-family members.
