2025 Fellowship Opportunities for Psychology Post-Docs

Letter to Postdoctoral Fellows from Dr. Erin Lawton, the Director of Training

Hello and welcome! Huge congratulations on your soon-to-be doctorate! I am the new Director of Training at Nowlogy Psychology Experts. To learn more about our fellowship program please visit here.

A little about me: I recently joined Nowlogy after spending nine years as the Director of the student training clinic for the clinical psychology PhD program at Washington University in St. Louis. It’s actually a funny story how I found my way to Nowlogy. I completed my internship year at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, and do you know who happened to be Chief of Psychology while I was an intern? None other than Dr. Mia Paquin! So when I was looking to relocate with my family back to the Twin Cities from St. Louis, I found Dr. Paquin and this practice. A few things drew me in – the collegial environment, the emphasis on the whole professional and person, and the chance to do what I love (training!). I tell you this story, because I hope and think that Nowlogy could offer you these same benefits.

First, I believe that this environment – filled with both seasoned professionals and newly-minted peers – is a supportive environment in which to continue your training, but also begin your path to independent practice. Supervisors and colleagues are accessible for consults, support, or a friendly chat.

Second, we are interested in investing in our trainees. We understand that means providing and encouraging professional development, including ensuring that our training meets the needs for licensure in your desired state. We also understand that means working with individuals to support work-life balance. Paid time off and flexibility with scheduling (within reason) are some benefits of Nowlogy. We hope that this investment makes Nowlogy attractive not only as a fellowship, but as a career path!

Finally, we want to understand what each fellow loves to do and we strive to tailor the experience accordingly. Of course, the tracks (Generalist, Anxiety/OCD/PTSD, LGBTQ+, and Child/Adolescent) offer one opportunity to indicate client preferences. But beyond that, we keep an open line of communication about what populations or presenting problems you’re hoping to gain experience with, what interventions you’re hoping to learn, etc.

Long story not-so-short, my hope is that Nowlogy can offer a supportive and individualized training environment in which postdoctoral fellows can grow into their independence, and – if career goals align – fellows can develop into colleagues. I hope you consider joining us, and please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions!

Training Opportunities

Direct patient contact:

Psychology Express offers opportunities in assessment, therapy, and consultation. Opportunities are tailored to the trainee to ensure they gain the experience they hope to have toward independent licensure. In fact, we offer a variety of tracks such that trainees are able to specialize in the populations with whom they want to work. Our tracks include: Clinical Generalist, OCD/Anxiety/Trauma Focus, LGBTQ+ Clientele Focus, and Child/Adolescent/Family Focus.

Clients are seen in person and online.  For the training year, fellows work on site but if they continue with employment, opportunities are available later on for them to work a hybrid model (in person and remote).

Supervision:

Post-doctoral fellows receive one hour of group supervision and one hour of individual supervision with a licensed psychologist each week. Additional supervision is also available as needed for certain needs (e.g., complex assessment consultation, forensic cases, etc.).  We ensure that you meet supervision requirements for licensure in the state you wish to reside after fellowship.

Didactics and trainings:

We regularly invite presentations, speakers, and consultants to work with our providers and trainees. For instance, we have a consulting relationship with Dr. Raja David, a leading expert in therapeutic assessment. Dr. David provides trainings and monthly consultations to our fellows and providers. Another recent example is Social Security Disability Consultative Exam training. Webinars and trainings are encouraged and recommended, and we ensure that fellows have enough time in their schedules to devote to professional development.  When fellows have completed their clinical activities, there is often time for them to also engage in preparation for the EPPP.
